Since its founding in 1870, Syracuse University has built a national reputation for academic and athletic excellence. As a result, products bearing the marks of Syracuse University are in great demand. Because of the growing popularity of collegiate athletics and the use of school names on products, many colleges and universities have established licensing programs to control the use of their marks. The Syracuse University licensing program was developed in 1981 to protect, promote and support the use of the Syracuse University name and trademarks on products in the marketplace. It also insures that the Syracuse University trademarks are used only on quality products printed with appropriate graphics so that the image conveyed protects the name and reputation of the University.
