Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I am new to the Newhouse School and the Dean would like to invite a great speaker to an auditorium which can accommodate 300 people. I am unfamiliar with the campus venues. Can you offer some suggestions and help me with the details?
A. Yes. We are fortunately not new to this! Since you are affiliated with a University department you can use campus facilities for such events and not only can we help you secure the space, we can also assist you with the Food Services arrangements, boarding, etc.

Q. I am a student and I'd like to come back early to campus in the fall. Can I do that through you?
A. Yes, if you are asked to return by a University Department who sponsors your stay. We assist over 20 departments campus wide with early arrival arrangements.

Q. My son is graduating and all of the local hotels are sold out. Is there any housing available on campus for Commencement Weekend.
A. Yes. Our office processes reservations for approximately 500 rooms for Commencement weekend. You can conveniently make reservations through our web site. Reservation information is posted each May prior to Commencement Weekend.

Q. I am a Syracuse University alumni and would like to rent a campus residence hall to accommodate my friends and family returning for a reunion. It this possible?
A. The residence halls and campus facilities are not available for private use or non-university sponsored events or activities.

Q. I am in charge of a corporate sponsored swimming competition. We would be able to conduct many races simultaneously if we were to use the Syracuse University campus pools to host this event. Also, parking would be convenient on campus. It is possible to reserve the pools for this event?
A. Syracuse University would not be a viable location since the facilities required to conduct the event are not exclusive to our campus. Many local high schools and athletic clubs offer swimming pools and could adequately host this event.

Q. I am coordinating a basketball camp program with high school sophomores and juniors from Central New York. It would be good exposure for the University to host this age group of kids. Can we use basketball courts in your campus gyms?
A. While the age group of these participants would be considered favorable, NCAA bylaws prohibits the University from conducting any athletic(s) activity involving a "prospect". A prospect is defined as any individual who has started classes in the ninth grade and is not enrolled at Syracuse University. Syracuse University does, however, conduct summer camp programs and these athletes could attend the camp program sponsored by the athletic department.
